I felt like I was getting a little sick on Thursday night, but just passed it off on exhaustion. However, sleep did not come at all that night because of a headache. I'm not one that normally takes medication for headaches (not sure why...but I don't), but when 5:30 rolled around and I still was awake and in pain I made Dan get up and find me some (I know, wasn't it nice that I made Dan do it, but in my defense, his alarm had just gone off so he was awake...sort of). Anyway, the IBprofin did nothing what-so-ever, and all day the headache got worse and worse. I finally got a little worried about it and called my doctor to see if it was normal, or if I could take something different for it. Turns out I'm not supposed to take IBprofin while pregnant...oops. Tylenol is supposedly what you can take. Yikes...good thing I don't take medication often. Anyway, Dan came home from school earlier than normal because I started crying on the phone on him. He took the kids and I tried to sleep. Oh, it turns out the doctor said I had a tension headache, and I would just like to say, "If this is anything at all similar to those headaches you get if they mess up your epidural, I am so sorry for all of you who have ever experienced that." My poor kids were neglected while I tried not to move my head at all. Anyway, Dan is amazing and the kids were understanding. Kember kept trying to help with my ice (veggie) pack and heating (rice) bag. It hurt more to have her help, but she did try! :)
Kember also met with her teacher yesterday. We are both very excited that she is going to school, and meeting the teacher Kember kept showing off. It was really cute.

Nesting
What an odd word, and what an odder sensation it is to actually be experiencing it. I know, I’m on my third pregnancy, but I didn’t come anywhere near “nesting” with the other two. I never thought I would either. Well, come it has. I also thought that if I ever did nest it would be the last couple weeks of my pregnancy. No, this isn’t the case either. I’ve been nesting for months. Dan doesn’t know what to do with me. It’s so odd and different from usual (which is a sad commentary on my regular housekeeping skills) he just shakes his head and tries to stay out of my way. You see, I get rather testy about it too. If anyone (in other words, Dan) says anything or doesn’t clean up after themselves they had better watch out! On our last little trip I couldn’t handle the car ride. Not because I was 6 ½ months pregnant, but because our car was a disaster. Every time we would stop I would have to clean out the car. When we dropped our kids off at Dan’s parents house Dan wanted to take off right, but I wouldn’t let him until I’d cleaned out the car. Any time we pulled into a hotel, Dan would get the luggage, I would clean out the car. I wonder how long this is going to last. Does it end when I have the baby because I’ll be too tired to carry on and have three little ones about? Now granted…if you were to stop by right now I’m sure you wouldn’t think I was nesting (little people follow after me and undo everything I’ve done), but nesting I am, and an odder sensation I haven’t experienced. I even want to pack. Granted, we aren’t moving anywhere until May of ’09, and even that isn’t set in stone (far from it actually….Dan needs to find a job first). But I still want to throw everything away and put what’s left in boxes. Is this normal? My organizational skills were never very good, but I have a hankering to organize everything and it drives me batty that I don’t know the best way to do it; especially the kids’ room with all their toys. My next organizational project is probably going to be our hall closet…this has been a disaster since we moved it, but I’m really getting excited about throwing everything out. Wahoo!
In other news, we actually went on a date last night. I know, amazing. Our good friends the Morley's watched our kids for us (thanks so much!!!) so we could get out and about.

Oh the TERROR of it all
This is going to be a quickie because I escaped for just a short time and the library is going to close soon. Also, no pictures (sigh...some day I will post pictures again).
Kember is starting school in September. She is very excited about this (we will see how excited she is when it actually rolls around), and is constantly telling anyone who will listen that she is going to school in september and gets to ride the bus all by herself (again, we will see if she actually will, but she's excited for now). I'm excited for her. I think it will be a great experience and give me a little break from three kids. Anyway, to go to school everything needed to be up-to-date...like doctors appointments, immunizations, and dentists. Everything was right on schedule...except the dentist. Well, I called and got her an appointment and I thought "No problem." See, Kember normally does really well at new things. Apparently the Dentist is the exception. Holy cow. She cried/screamed for 45 minutes. She clung on to me sooo tight I couldn't breath. Caden thought the whole thing was really cool, but I couldn't really chase him down while I had an attachment of Kember on me. All the Dentist wanted to do was count her teeth. We had even practiced the day before and talked about it, read books, etc. After he got her teeth counted (20, just incase you were wondering) and left she calmed down a little (he must have scared her) the nurse/hygenist was able to apply floride and do the air thing in her mouth. Boy, it was quite the process and completely wore me out. But she loved the little bag of stuff they gave her afterwards. Needless to say, I'm not looking forward to going back in 6 months, and I think we are going to find another dentist that has a more kid friendly office. I might even try going with a friend so Kember can watch. Who knows....I might just put it off and wait until she's older...yep, that's good parenting for you!
Oh, and speaking of terrors, I had a doctor appointment today and had to do the diabetes test...yuck. The nasty orange drink is still nasty, but at least this one wasn't carbonated. It definitely makes it easier to chug if you don't have fizzy bubbles burning your throat.
I think we are finally over the "sick" phase of ... whatever phase we were in. After both kids had high fevers and threw-up all over we are good to go. Our van is still dead (oops..that's my fault), so I'm taking Dan to school in the mornings. It's a little early for me, but since we aren't locking Kember in her room at night anymore (night time potty training has begun...speaking of terrors) she is able to get out and about around 6ish...oh happy happy day. I love child proof locks, and am definitely going to miss that option.

Salute
This is a random blog (see my blog title if you are expecting something different) all about how grateful I am to have a GPS. Our trip to California would have been difficult and extremely frustrating if we didn't have this little beauty. If you are directionally challenged I highly recommend getting one. Actually, even if you aren't directionally challenged they are still wonderful things. Dan is really good at directions, but even he loves this little beauty. It's kind of fun to see how many miles you have left to go, what your estimated arrival time it, and it is great fun to see that time get less and less (although, really frustrating to see the minutes go up if you're stuck in traffic or make a pit stop or something). There is the slight problem, that with the GPS, I don't really pay attention to where I've turned or how I got there...and if the GPS doesn't work on the way back, well, you're stuck. Anyway, they are wonderful little things and they give me a lot more confidence when I drive. We still use maps (I must be a visual person). I like to see where I am in the "grand" scheme of things, and the GPS (ours anyway) doesn't show you that. Anyway, on a list of the greatest inventions ever made...GPS would be up close to the top on mine. That may be pretty sad, but I love it.

Wicked!
Amazing. Absolutely Amazing. If you have the opportunity to see it, I highly highly recommend it (I hear it's coming to SL, albeit rather pricey). I'm really glad that Dan and I had the opportunity to see this.
Today was a perfect day for me. Dan and I were able to sleep into today and the nice thing was that even though we had an agenda (shocking, I know) we weren't in any hurry. So we got ready to go to the Temple, but I made Dan stop off at Redondo Beach first so I could take pictures. He was good enough to oblige me :) The Temple was amazing. I couldn't believe how big it was. There were only 20 people in our session, so maybe it seemed bigger than it was, but the rooms were huge. I felt so much peace and happiness and contentment there. Most of the time I'm feeling very rushed when we go. Rushed to get back to the kids, rushed to do whatever I feel like I have to do next, etc. Today, no rushing, and it was amazing the difference. And we also ate in the Temple cafeteria (which I have never done before). Actually, this turned out to be our "fanciest" meal. Which isn't saying much, but it wasn't fast food. I then made (yes, this was my vacation, apparently not Dan's) Dan take me to the beach to go play...or lay in the sand and read. We stayed at the Santa Montica Beach for a hour or so then found our new hotel (a long way away...especially in rush hour traffic) and got ready to go to Wicked. I find it very ironic that the nicest hotel we've stayed at has been our cheapest hotel. So even though the hotels weren't thought out well, at least the crappiest hotel was first, and we ended with the nicest.
It was a great vacation, and I'm glad that we were able to do it.
Oh, and for everyone who heard about the earthquake...you know more about it than we do. We didn't feel anything although supposedly we were in the area and it was felt over in Nevada as well. I'm thankful. Not that it happened and that people in Nevada felt it, but that I didn't feel it (that would have been scary) and that we are safe.

It's happened at Last!
Dan and I are actually on vacation! Dan got two weeks of vacation and we took them to go to his family reunion in Logan, Ut; my family reunion in Gooding, Id (random, I know, I have no family in Gooding, but hey it was a cute little town!); and then we drove to Aurora to drop the kids off with Grandma and Grandpa Johnson. Then we took off to California! Just the two of us and just for a couple days. I'll admit that I'm really surprised at how much I miss my kids. I was thinking that for a week I would be good, and any longer I would miss much. While I'm sure the "missing much" would occur, I already miss them and look forward to talking to them both on the phone every day. Even if talking to Caden is quite the challenge because he can't talk but he won't give the phone up once he has it. I cried when we left them (it was rather abrupt...we drove up, unpacked the kids stuff, hopped in the car and drove away) and I am constantly thinking about what things would be like if they were here with us, and what things they would like, and what they wouldn't like. It's good to know my "motherly" instincts aren't totally none existant.
I would just like to recommend to anyone thinking of vacationing in Los Angeles to avoid actually staying in Hollywood. It's kind of ghetto and scary, and they hotel that we got was not a very good one at all...no shampoo, no pad of paper or pen, no alarm clock, and a used condom in the hall (ya, that was gross). However, it was really close to everything that I guess you do while in Hollywood and Dan and I had a great time. We didn't get there until late afternoon, and it took us forever to decided which hotel we should stay at. We walked up and down Hollywood Blvd trying to decide what to do. Do we go to this museum? Do we go to that one? How much is that? Oh, that one was cheaper. But I'm hungry so let's find something to eat. Do we go to this place, or that place? Anyway, let's just say Dan and I are not good at making decisions and we walked a lot. Not covering any great distance, but a lot of back and forth. We ended up eating at Johnny Rockets (a burger place based on the 50's...too cute) saw a lot of famous peoples names on stars, went to the Hollywood Wax Museum (I'd love to post pictures, but didn't bring my cable to connect to my camera...sigh) and the Guinness World of Records Museum. We bought cheap t-shirts for kid gifts and headed back to the hotel. Then we spent the next couple hours trying to find hotels for the rest of our stay. Sometimes there is just too much information out there and since Dan and I have already proved we don't do well making decisions that made for a long night.
Today we tried to sleep in but unfortunately both of us woke up earlier than I would have liked and just got ready to leave. We'll be back in Hollywood tomorrow to see Wicked, but we aren't staying there and I was definitely ready for something else. We headed over to Santa Montica and this I would recommend to people. It's just a better area and nicer all around. We went to the beach and walked up and down the pier. Then we decided that we needed books to read on the beach and just relax so we walked some more...a lot. Besides the fact that I am now the world's slowest walker because this little guy in my stomache doesn't seem to like it much and I cramp like the dickens, it was tons of fun and Dan was very patient with me. We found our books and decided to go to a movie since you can't really do that with the kids. We went to the new Batman movie "The Dark Knight" and well, it was dark. Dan enjoyed it, but I can't say I saw much of the movie. My head was down for most of it. Too violent for my taste. However, it was good to go to a movie with Dan, and I kind of feel like that was the first thing we've done that Dan has really wanted to do. Isn't he the greatest? He's trying to make me very happy by doing whatever I want to do. After that we decided to check into our new hotel and check out the Redondo Beach. So, we hopped in the car again and took off. Redondo Beach is really nice to. I think we are checking it out (meaning, playing on it) tomorrow.
So, we were looking for a place for dinner and finally after much indecision and driving up and down the street I said, "Let's go to Amiee's Bistro". I had no idea what a bistro was and Dan was getting hungry and frustrated so we stopped. Well, let's just say that we were very under-dressed and when Dan saw the menu and found out that everything was French he got very quiet and looked quiet uncomfortable. Apparently he doesn't do so well with goose liver (if I could spell the French name I would write it...it's foi gras or something like that). But he thought I would enjoy that place (which was way out of the budget as well...and had everything cooked in wine) so he sat quietly and tried to find something to eat. I finally suggested that we leave. I'm not so into French food either (must be my bland taste) and I really couldn't believe how uncomfortable Dan looked. It was really endearing actually. He was embarrassed to leave, but very glad to be out of there. Dan's more of a steak and potato's kind of guy, and I love him for it. Anyway, after that we found a laundromat and did some much needed laundry.
Didn't mean to bore everyone (assuming people still check my blog since I haven't written for two months) with a travel log, but I have to record this experience somewhere! :) Don't worry. There will be more later when I tell you all how amazing Wicked was and how the hotel tomorrow night is!

Look at me go!
Well, I finally did it. Okay, I only did it because Dan almost did it first, but still, I did it. I finally cancelled our Internet. I know, it isn't that exciting to most of you, but I am proud of myself because I had to call and talk to someone. Dan tried doing it yesterday, but they told him to call back or something weird. Anyway, he got me the number I needed to call. Just like I thought they would, they tried to change the price, "But we have a DSL plan for $14.99" "No, can't afford it" "But we have a DSL plan for $12.99" "Look, it is just not going to happen!" I might not have said "Look" but I did say the rest. I'm so proud of me. After that he cancelled it. I couldn't understand him, so I have no idea how long it will actually take to disconnect it, but whatever. At this point I don't really care. It does amaze (although not surprise) me that they can have a $14.99 plan one minute and then a $12.99 plan the next when we were paying $29.99. I know, I know, it sales and they do things like that.
I also got the car fixed today. Again, only because Dan called and got an appointment. Our brakes were squeaking like mad. Seriously, it was so bad that you could hear our car coming. But I took all three kids, dropped the car off, loaded the kids back into the car along with some car guy, unloaded kids and car seats at our apartment and car guy took car back to fix-it-shop. Again, I'm proud of myself. I did wake Dan up at 3 when the car was done and made him take me down to pick it up, but hey...Look at me go.
Enough about me. I think Dan is gradually getting used to the overnight stuff. His body must be adapting because he hasn't thrown-up anymore, I think he can eat, and he is getting to sleep when he gets home...plus he isn't incredibly grumpy when he wakes up. Which is more than I can say for myself. Anyway, last night was apparently really busy. They had two colic's come in (but they were mild cases) and a distotia? Dan has told me this twice, but I don't know if that is what he called it. A horse with a bad pregnancy. Part of the placenta had come away from the wall and the horses water had broke (again, big words that I don't understand) so they had to go in and get the baby out. Apparently it did really well for an hour (Dan says this is typical of baby horses..they get an epinephrine? rush) but then it had a seizure and they had to put it down. Okay, so I'm not sure if any of that makes sense, but I think that is what he told me. The night before another colic came in and Dan got to do the tubey thing that they do to horses. Did you know horses can't throw-up? I had no idea. Weird huh. That must be why they get colic a lot. Anyway, you put a tube down it's esophagus into the stomach and releases whatever is in there that is causing the colic (which by the way is a broad term that means just about anything from stomachache to....other stuff). I asked Dan how he knew he got the tube in the right place and he said that his mouth is on one side of the tube and if you stick it in the trachea (which he did) you can blow and it's in the lungs and nothing happens, but the esophagus will tighten around the tube and you have to wait for the horse to swallow to stick it down in the stomach. Anyway, he got it down in the stomach and his mouth was still on the tube when the gasses came back up. Luckily he had removed his mouth before the stomach contents came up to. Disgusting, I know, but kind of cool, and I think Dan was really proud of himself (as he should be). If you want to know what really happened instead of my extremely dumbed down version, talk to Dan. He isn't on call on weekends, so as long as you call after noon I'm sure he'd love to talk to you!
